The special session stalls

The House postponed any consideration of tax measures on Monday, putting the special session on hold while legislators attempt to hash out their differences behind closed doors.

Health care cuts will devastate Louisiana

Unless lawmakers can agree on a revenue package by July 1, the Louisiana Department of Health is facing more than $650 million in cuts next year - an amount that would swell to $2.8 billion with the loss of matching federal dollars.

Deepening the budget hole

Rather than heeding the recommendations of experts who suggested reducing the proliferation of tax exemptions and credits, the House Ways & Means Committee is creating new tax breaks and extending old ones.
