Women workers and their families have the most to gain from Sen. Troy Carter’s Senate Bill 162, which would raise the statewide minimum wage to $8.50 per hour by January 1, 2020. While 10.7 percent of all Louisiana workers would get a raise under the bill, more than 65 percent of workers that would benefit are women.Read more...

The best anti-poverty program is a job that pays a living wage. But here in Louisiana, far too many workers are struggling to afford basic needs because their jobs don’t pay enough.  Senate Bill 162 would address this by requiring that workers be paid at least $8.50 per hour starting in 2020.  Read more...
