Special session comes into focus

It’s looking increasingly likely that Gov. John Bel Edwards will call legislators into a special session starting Feb. 19 in an effort to fill the $1 billion revenue hole caused by expiring taxes.

House tax plan benefits richest 1 percent

The wealthiest 1 percent of Louisianans will get the greatest share of the tax cut plan proposed by the U.S. House of Representatives. And the share of the tax cuts going to the top 1 percent would grow through 2027, according to a 50-state analysis of the House tax plan released yesterday by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP).

A bipartisan health-care plan?

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell struck a conciliatory note as he returned home to Kentucky, fresh from his failed attempt to replace the Affordable Care Act with legislation that would have taken health-care coverage from millions of Americans.
