The percentage of Louisianans living in poverty decreased slightly in 2018 from the previous year, according to U.S Census Bureau data released Sept. 26. The gains were even more pronounced among children, particularly children of color, according to the 2018 American Community Survey.Read more...

Poverty Drops (slightly) in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE – Fewer Louisiana adults and children were living in poverty in 2018 than the year before, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. The most significant drop was among children of color, which dropped by 4 percentage points to 43%.Read more...

Louisiana must support young parents

Three out of every 4 children with parents ages 18 to 24 live in poverty in Louisiana. Younger parents typically have fewer savings and lower levels of education, which creates barriers to success and opportunity for their families.

Another step toward investment in early education

Louisiana currently spends no state general fund dollars to subsidize the cost of early childhood education for low-income parents, even though thousands of families are languishing on a state waiting list.
