Benefits of Louisiana’s Medicaid expansion evident in new Census data

The percentage of Louisiana residents without health insurance dropped into the single digits for the first time in 2017, according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Wednesday. The state’s uninsured rate is 8.4 percent, down from 10.3 percent in 2016 and 16.6 percent in 2013, the year before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) took effect.Read more...

Medicaid: Fiscal Year 2018 State Budget

John Bel Edwards’ executive budget for fiscal year 2017-18 proposes to spend $2.2 billion in state general funds to provide Medicaid health coverage for 1.7 million Louisiana residents. That translates to a $229 million reduction in state spending on Medicaid – or 12 percent below current-year levels after accounting for inflation.Read more...
