The House is expected to vote later today on the American Health Care Act, which would gut the Medicaid program and shift hundreds of billions of dollars in health care costs from the federal government to the states.

The various groups that have looked at Louisiana’s broken tax structure have all come to a similar conclusion: The state needs to strengthen its personal income tax by getting rid of expensive deductions, and lower a state sales tax that is the highest in the country (when combined with local levies).
