The GOP targets Medicaid

Louisiana’s Medicaid program has grown considerably in recent years - from less than $8 billion five years ago to more than $12 billion in the current budget cycle. Most of that growth is due to an influx of federal funding associated with Medicaid expansion, and it’s buying something very important: secure, portable health coverage for more than 400,000 low-income adults.

Nov. 14: New ideas for tax reform

The Advocate’s editorial page looks at the recent recommendations from the Task Force on Structural Changes in Budget and Tax Policy and likes a lot of what it sees. But after the voters’ rejection of Amendment 3, which sought to eliminate the ability of corporations to deduct federal income taxes on their state returns, that job got considerably tougher.
