Hospital layoffs in Lafayette?

The state’s financial uncertainty has prompted Lafayette General Health to issue ‘warn’ letters of termination to nearly 800 University Hospital and Clinics employees.

Back from the brink

The Legislature’s special session nears its midpoint with a critical package of tax and budget bills having cleared their most difficult hurdle. Meeting for a rare Sunday afternoon session, the House Ways & Means Committee approved two major tax bills - one on sales taxes and one on income tax - while the Health & Welfare Committee advanced Medicaid bills sought by conservatives.

Looking for leverage

Looking for leverage in the ongoing debate over Louisiana’s budget shortfall and the impending fiscal cliff, a bloc of Louisiana’s Democrats struck down a construction financing bill, which requires a two-thirds vote in order to pass.
