Budget gimmicks will not solve revenue problem

Using one-time money to pay for long term, ongoing expenses is not a sustainable way to run a household, let alone a state budget. But that’s exactly what House GOP leader Lance Harris is proposing as a fix for Louisiana’s fiscal cliff.

The “cliff” gets a little less steep

Louisiana’s budget picture got a little brighter on Thursday, when a state forecasting panel recognized $387 million in new tax revenues for lawmakers to spend over the next 18 months.

The shameful DACA decision

Faith leaders, CEOs of major U.S. businesses and a strong majority of Americans disagree with President Donald Trump’s decision to end the federal program that allowed unauthorized immigrants brought to the United States as children the chance to live and work without the threat of deportation.

Ending DACA is bad for business

President Donald Trump is expected to withdraw Obama-era legal protections for more than 800,000 immigrants who arrived in the United States as children of undocumented parents. Many recipients of DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, have lived in America for decades, building families, careers, and businesses.
