Looking beyond the unemployment rate

The national unemployment rate is at a near-historic low, but it’s important to remember that unemployment statistics only count adults who are unemployed but actively looking for work.

New Orleans poverty rate top among U.S. metros

New Orleans had the nation’s highest official poverty rate among the 50 largest metro areas in 2017, according to Census data released Thursday.

Louisiana’s uninsured rate plunges

The 2017 Louisiana Health Insurance Survey results released Monday revealed the first substantial drop in the percentage of uninsured adults since LSU researchers began conducting the survey in 2003.
