BATON ROUGE -While Louisiana’s economy has made strides in recent years, many of the jobs being created don’t pay enough to sustain a family. The strength of Louisiana’s economy continues to vary widely by region, race, gender and educational attainment.

In the 3rd edition of the Louisiana Budget Project’s State of Working Louisiana report, released today, senior policy analysts Jeanie Donovan and Nick Albares take a detailed look at the state’s workforce from the point of view of its participants. The report is designed as a resource for policymakers, the news media and the public to understand how workers are doing in Louisiana – and how policy changes can help create an economy that works for everyone.

“Louisiana’s workers are more productive than ever. But all too often these gains are not translating to higher wages and benefits,” LBP executive director Jan Moller said. “Unfortunately, some areas of the state still have not recovered the jobs that were lost during the recession. And restrictive state laws are holding back cities that want to improve wages and benefits for their residents.”
